Harbor Pest Control traces its roots back to 1948, when Sid Davis, a dedicated teacher at Dana Junior High in Point Loma, California, began a small pest control venture during his summer breaks. What started as a seasonal side job quickly gained traction as the need for pest services grew across San Diego County. As demand increased, so did Sid’s passion for the industry. His work laid the foundation for what would become one of San Diego’s most respected names in pest control.
In 1974, industry legend John Morgenroth and his wife Kate purchased Harbor Pest Control. Under their leadership, the company flourished into a family-run enterprise known for integrity, customer care, and professionalism. The Morgenroths didn’t just maintain the business—they expanded it.
Recognizing the growing need for specialized services, they launched a marine and quarantine fumigation division, offering support to ships, yachts, and imported goods requiring quarantine treatments. Their customer-first philosophy and innovative approach helped Harbor Pest Control earn a trusted reputation throughout the region.
When the time came for retirement, John and Kate Morgenroth had a choice—sell to a national chain or keep Harbor a locally owned business. Staying true to their values, they chose to entrust Harbor Pest Control to owners who would preserve the company’s character and community focus. That family was Greg and Mary Augustine.
In 2002, Greg and his wife Mary purchased Harbor Pest Control from the Morgenroths. Together, they’ve continued to grow the company while keeping the same hands-on, family-focused approach that has defined Harbor since its inception. Greg remains licensed in all three pest control branches and holds a Qualified Applicator License in agricultural pest control.
For over two decades, Greg and Mary have built strong relationships with employees and customers alike. Their philosophy is simple: treat people well and everything else will follow. As Greg puts it, “Whether the company is large or small, if it is professional and ethical, it will stand the test of time.”
Greg, a San Diego native and graduate of Christian High School, earned a degree in Business-Economics from UCLA before beginning his career as a CPA with Touche Ross & Co. But pest control was in his blood—his family had long been involved in the industry. In 1984, he joined Lloyd Pest Control as comptroller, working alongside his uncle, Jim Ogle.
By 1995, Greg was an active leader in the Pest Control Operators of California (now the California Pest Management Association), eventually serving as Chairman of the San Diego District and participating in numerous state-level committees.
Harbor Pest Control remains proudly family-owned and operated, continuing its legacy of trusted service in the San Diego area. With decades of experience, deep industry knowledge, and a genuine commitment to people over profits, the company stands as a testament to the idea that doing things the right way still matters.
